Limbo is an independent horror game developed by software company Playdead. Some reviewers have referred to it as gruesome, so it's probably a good thing that it is only in 2D graphics. Limbo is what is known as a platform puzzle game which was first released for Xbox Live and is now available for PC.

Limbo is a third-person perspective game where the player takes on the role of a boy who has to navigate his way around a scary world with monsters and other things which are out to get him. Graphics are monochrome only, but very detailed and the animation is excellent. There is dust as well as liquid effects, which contribute to the gloomy atmosphere of the game. Lighting has a slight flicker which is intended to make the game feel old and extra creepy. Lisa: the painful crack. The sound effects and sounds are great.

In Limbo, players are given puzzles and other obstacles, which must be navigated through using perfect timing and or deep thought. The game has several levels, and some of them can be very difficult. As a horror platform, Limbo takes the stance that it is not supposed to be an easy or 'nice' game. Some moments within the game are scarier than others.

Limbo is highly addictive, but short enough to be a game that can be finished and enjoyed. The game has been popular internationally, with deluxe and special-edition releases, including a hardcover edition of Limbo for Windows PC. The Special Edition Limbo includes a special-edition box, disc with game, standalone sound tack, seven art cards, a boy sticker, and 3D glasses.

Limbo's designer and publisher, Playdead, has released a game called Inside which appears to have a similar format to Limbo - dark graphics, gloomy soundtrack, and, in the trailer, a lone character peering in at the people moving in a stiff and zombielike manner around a factory.

To play Limbo will require a Windows XP/Vista/7 operating system with a 2 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, a graphics card five or fewer years old, Shader Model 3.0, 185 MB of free space on the hard drive, and DirectX 9.0c. The game supports fourteen different languages within its interface (not as subtitles)
